Did He Fake His Own Coup? (If So It Fooled Obama)

There’s an old saying in poker; if you don’t know who the sucker at the table is, it’s you. The democratically elected president of Turkey is rapidly becoming a dictator and he’s used Obama and the EU to provide moral support to his initial efforts.

From Zero Hedge:

Yesterday, in an interview with the FT, Gulen accused Erdogan of staging the coup himself.

Whether or not that is true, the aftermath is clear: Erdogan has a green light to arrest virtually anyone he considers a remote threat, starting with the army and the judicial, and is doing just that.

The Turkish government has accelerated its crackdown on alleged plotters of the botched coup against Erdogan, issuing dozens of arrest warrants for judges and prosecutors and detaining military officers.

Already, three of the country’s top generals have been detained, alongside hundreds of soldiers. The government has also dismissed nearly 3,000 judges and prosecutors from their posts, while investigators were preparing court cases to send the conspirators to trial on charges of attempting to overthrow the government. At least 265 people were killed and over 1,400 were wounded. Government officials say at least 104 conspirators were killed.

We can’t say for sure that Erdogan staged his own coup, but it sure looks that way. Erdogan bullied the United States into voicing support for him during the coup. He even accused the U.S. of being behind the coup and has threatened us with war. Meanwhile the Obama administration walked on egg shells around the soon-to-be dictator in an attempt not to anger him during the actual crisis.

It took several days for John Kerry to finally start pushing back but at least the U.S. is finally started to wake up. Threatening to remove Turkey from NATO is a good start, it’s insane that we should have a military alliance requiring us to defend Turkey while they threaten us with war .
