Scalise Released From Hospital

On Wednesday, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who was shot along with four others on June 14 by James Hodgkinson, a far-left supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders, was released from the hospital:

Scalise’s condition had gone through vicissitudes as he recovered from the shooting; initially, he was “in critical condition with an imminent risk of death,” when he was rushed to the hospital, according to Dr. Jack Sava, director of trauma at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

On July 5, Scalise’s condition was downgraded to serious just after it was announced his condition had improved to the point where he could get out of bed.

As Rep. Mike Bishop told The New York Times, if it hadn’t been for the security detail present at the shooting, everyone would have been dead. Bishop stated:

If not for the detail who stepped up with basic revolvers, we would’ve all been dead. … Ting, ting, ting, ting. He was hunting us at that point. There was so much gunfire, you couldn’t get up and run. Pop, pop, pop, pop — it’s a sound I’ll never forget.
